The City of Redding is accepting applications for one full-time Electric Utility Engineering Assistant I position in the Electric Department.  Under direct supervision, this position performs engineering work in transmission and distribution planning, facilities design and procurement, technical research, economic analysis, resource planning, production cost modeling, and contract administration for the City of Redding Electric Utility (REU). 

The City of Redding provides an excellent benefit package including health, dental, vision, life and long term disability insurance, paid time off and a CalPERS retirement program along with a great work environment.  This position will receive a 2% increase July 2022.

We are looking for someone to:

  • Setup, define, document, and run various software utilized throughout the Department.
  • Assist in the design and coordinate preparation of plans and specifications for capital improvement projects.
  • Update design and engineering standards and guidelines.
  • Assist in the coordination of contract administration of capital improvement projects.
  • Assist in performing less complex and technical engineering design calculations.
  • Assist in the preparation of various engineering reports and cost estimates for REU projects and procurement and the integrated resource plan.
  • Coordinate engineering activities with other City departments and outside agencies.
  • Assist in preparing transmission/distribution long-range planning studies and/or long-range resource planning studies.

Typical Qualifications for Electrical Engineer

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of electrical engineering methods, materials, and techniques used in either electrical engineering, construction, engineering drawings, or detailed maps and plans
  • Ability to interact effectively  with  the public and employees
  • Ability to perform complex engineering and economic analysis, make complex engineering computations; read and accurately interpret plans, specifications, regulations and  other pertinent data, and compare them with construction in progress
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to perform technical research
  • Typical education would include a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, in an Engineering discipline.
  • Limited part-time or no experience required.
  • Possession of the appropriate valid California driver's license, or the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment.
Veterans Credit: Applicants who attach a copy of the DD-214 to their application indicating “Honorable Discharge” from military service and receive a passing score on the examination process will have two (2) additional points added to their final examination score.
