This position is an 11-month, tenure-track appointment in Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering (BAE), with primary Extension (75%) and Teaching (25%) responsibilities and is expected to begin January 1st, 2022.
The faculty member will be expected to develop and sustain a nationally recognized, externally funded, and responsive extension and applied research program addressing water availability, access, supply, quality, and use issues in Oklahoma. Preferred areas of extension programming include, but are not limited to: non-point-source pollution from agricultural operations, erosion control, streambank stability, water conservation, water supply and sourcing, water treatment, watershed and landscape management, and rural and urban water quality issues in watersheds, streams, lakes, aquifers, and reservoirs.
The successful applicant will provide education, training, and support for state, area, and county educators, and relevant stakeholders. Technology transfer and dissemination will be pertinent to defining a high impact extension program to address water security challenges in rural and urban communities. Scholarship through traditional and progressive outreach methods, external grants/contracts, peer-reviewed publications, and other forms of scholarly effort is expected. The incumbent will work closely with other Extension specialists and educators, municipalities, agri-business professionals, and industry and community stakeholders. Use of decision support tools, smart management practices, environmental fate assessment, and translation of holistic watershed model simulations will complement existing expertise in support of sustainability and resilience. Close collaboration is also expected with faculty in BAE and other departments in the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and the College of Engineering, Architecture & Technology, the Oklahoma Water Resources Center, and other units of the University, as well as regional, state, and federal organizations.
Teaching responsibilities include graduate and undergraduate courses within the Biosystems Engineering (ABET accredited) and the Agricultural Systems Technology degree curricula in the areas of water management, transport of contaminants in natural systems, and agricultural water management. Updating and implementing innovative teaching methods/materials and advising and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students are also expected.
Required:Earned PhD degree in Biosystems Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Demonstrated ability to attract external funding, publish peer-reviewed materials, and provide instruction to a wide variety of audiences. Candidates must be proficient in English, possessing effective verbal, written, and multimedia communication skills. Willingness to travel and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on interdisciplinary teams.
