We have an outstanding opportunity for a Transit Planner to assist in planning, transit collaboration, data analysis, and schedule production. Under limited supervision, the Transit Planner position will:
Work in coordination with other MVTA departments to evaluate requests for service and opportunities to better serve the community, adapt to changing demands, and increase ridership.
Plan, investigate, and recommend service options supported by research, documentation, or other established criteria.
Act as a liaison with community, city, county, regional, and other interest groups and participate on regional committees.
Engage city / County staff and elected officials in the MVTA service area to unify transit vision, evaluate development proposals, and coordinate transit related studies.
Prepare service concepts, maps, graphs, and reports for local, regional, and federal entities.
Compile and interpret ridership, route performance, or other related data to measure and evaluate service, policies, and priorities.
Assist with MVTA schedule changes including preparing new bus and route timetables, updating maps, service change documentation, and other related tasks.
Prepare regional funding applications as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned or apparent.
Knowledge of planning principles, methods, and practice
Effective and convincing written, verbal, and presentation skills
Ability to work ahead while balancing time sensitive projects
Ability to adapt and learn new / changing technologies
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
Training in GIRO Hastus, or similar, scheduling software
Strong interpersonal skills, especially when working with diverse groups such as customers, elected officials, or other governmental colleagues
2019 Salary Range $29.078 ($60,481.91) – $43.617 ($90,722.86) DOQ.

Four-year Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Transportation, Geography, Geographic Information System (GIS), Architecture, Public Policy, or closely related field.
Two (2) years of planning or related experience (will consider advanced degree in lieu of years of experience).
Training, Certificates, or Licenses:
Possess training in Geographic Information System (GIS) software
Employer will assist with relocation costs.
